5U Mentors are required for each player in the 5U Schoolyard division. Mentors are generally parents, grandparents or other relatives. Mentors can be older siblings (12 years of age minimum). Mentors are not required to have any soccer knowledge or ability. They must, however, be able to have fun, laugh with the kids, and kick around a soccer ball once in a while.
The Program is led by a Master Coach, who will in turn teach both the 5U children and the mentors about sportsmanship, team building, and of course the game of soccer.
To be a Mentor, you MUST register as an AYSO volunteer. You must do this on a yearly basis if you wish to continue to volunteer with the region - perhaps as a coach, assistant coach, team parent, or referee. It is strongly recommended that all Mentors take the online AYSO Safe Haven Certification Class, (required for all other volunteer positions) but is not required. This class is taken online on a computer, and will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
If you have any questions about the 5U Program, or the role of the 5U mentor, please contact the 5U Division Coordinator at
